Experience

Very Tranquil

Lake Janus offers a nice tranquil serene setting and is well worth the hike from the Smithbrook trailhead.  The Smithbrook trail starts with a fairly brisk .9 mile climb before it intersects with the Pacific Crest Trail.  The right (north) fork goes to Lake Janus. Take the left (south) fork to Lake ValhallaThe PCT descends 600 feet over approximately a mile of rocky and rough trail before it begins a gentle 200 ft. one mile ascent to Lake Janus.

There are several nice campsites on the south side of the lake.  A primitive trail leads around the lake.  There is a fresh water spring on the east shore of the lake.
