Great Views! Even the parking lot has amazing views. Be sure to allow enough time at the lookout to take in views of Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan, Mt Larrabee and the Pleiades and many other areas. This trail is very busy starting in late August through September. Other times of the year, the trailhead may not be accessible due to snow on the Twin Lakes road. The High Pass trail begins from the same trailhead. Strong hikers can easily hike High Pass and Winchester Mt. in the same day. If you must choose one trail, the High Pass trail offers the most in terms of views and an awesome trail experience.
Nearest Town: Bellingham, WA.
Driving Directions: Drive 12.8 miles east on highway WA-542 from the Glacier Public Service Center. Turn left (north) onto Twin Lakes road 3065. Follow the single lane rough and poorly maintained Twin Lakes road to the Gold Run Pass/Tomyhoi Lake trailhead. The remaining 2.5 miles to Twin Lakes are not recommended for vehicles with low clearance. Four wheel drive vehicles are strongly recommended. The trailhead is located above and to the west of the Twin Lakes parking lot.
