Experience

Very Scenic!

This trail offers some of the best alpine scenery in the Olympic National Park.  Be sure to bring your camera!  On a clear day, photographic opportunities are around every bend.

Grand Valley can be reached from either the Deer Park or Obstruction Point trailheads.  The easier (and shortest) route is from the Obstruction Pont trailhead.  Hiking distance is approximately 10 miles from Deer Park and approximately 5 miles from Obstruction Point.

This is a very popular trail during peak season.  Don't be surprised when you find the trailhead parking lot full when you arrive.  The trail is well maintained and well marked all the way to Moose Lake.

The first 2 miles of the trail is a very scenic alpine hike with a gentle 300 foot elevation gain from the 6,100 ft. trailhead.  At approximately 2 miles from the trailhead the trail begins its descent into Grand and Moose lakes.  The trail elevation is approximately 5,000 feet at Moose Lake.

Camp sites are available near the lakes.  An over night permit is required for camping.  Permits may be obtained at the Olympic National Park Visitor Center in Port Angeles.
